Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS+) programme is aimed at helping you prepare for and recover from major surgery as effectively as possible. It can maximise your chances of a speedy recovery, minimising your hospital stay. We believe that your support network (friends, family, partner etc) are central to your recovery.

Launched in 2014, the major elements of ERAS+ include:

• Respiratory bundle to reduce PPC - ICOUGH
• Support surgery preparation and recovery over at least a three-month process with focus
on cardiovascular activity, muscle strengthening, nutritional support and lifestyle advice
• Building on the success of ERAS stepped recovery programme
• Partnership with patient/family

ERAS+ is designed by medical professionals and uses cutting edge technology to support you through your preparation for, and recovery from major surgery.

Over 250,000 patients undergo major surgery annually in England and Wales. These patients are 30% more likely to suffer lung problems. This is associated with short term and long-term morbidity, with increased length of hospital stay(LOST) of up to 8 days and reduced life expectancy for up to 4 years after their surgery. Up until ERAS+ there have been no UK based resources aimed specifically at reducing PPCs for patients undergoing major surgery.

This app will enable clinicians to subscribe specific activities to patients after major surgery to remind them to undertake the required activities as part of their recovery process.

Clinicians would be able to monitor these activities before and after surgery to help the patients.

The benefits of ERAS+
